Director Dustin Guy Defa has assembled some of the coolest people for his upcoming drama.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Superbad” star Michael Cera is set to star in Defa’s new film alongside American actress Tavi Gevinson and “Broad City” star Abbi Jacobson.
Titled “Human People“, the drama is about several New Yorkers navigating personal relationships and unexpected problems in a day. Production on the drama is said to be taking place in New York City.
Cera is best known for portraying a young Chuck Barris in “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind” and as George Michael Bluth on the sitcom titled “Arrested Development”. He is also known for his leading roles in comedy films such as “Juno”, “Scott Pilgrim vs the World”, and “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist”.
As for Gevinson, she is known as the founder and editor-in-chief of “Rookie Magazine”, an online magazine which targets primarily at teenage girls. She appeared on the Forbes 30 Under 30 in media list. In 2014, she was named as one of “The 25 Most Influential Teens of 2014” by Time Magazine.
Jacobson is best known for co-creating and co-starring in the Comedy Central Series “Broad City”, with Ilana Glazer. Previously, Cera and Gavinson have appeared together in a Broadway production titled “This Is Our Youth” by American dramatist and screenwriter Kenneth Lonergan.
Other cast members for “Human People” include Buddy Durress, Isiah Whitlock, Michaela Watkins, Ben Rosenfield, George Sample III, Philip Baker Hall, and Bene Coopersmith.
James M. Johnston, Allison Rose Carter, Toby Halbrooks, Sara Murphy, and Jon Read will be producing the project while Eddie Linker, Joe Swanberg, Matthew Perniciaro, Peter Gilbert, and Michael Sherman are serving as the executive producers.
