Powerbank? Check. Band tee? Check. Backpack? Check. Melt-proof makeup? Check.
Concert spirit? That’s definitely the kind of spirit we will be bringing with us to the upcoming MTV World Stage Malaysia 2015 at Surf Beach, Sunway Lagoon on 12th September (Saturday).
Since its inception in 2009, MTV World Stage Malaysia has welcomed a slew of international award-winning international artists onto its stage. The popular artistes who were invited to grace the event include Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Robin Thicke, Far East Movement, B.o.B., Tokio Hotel, Kasabian, The All-American Rejects, and Pixie Lott.
The concert has also featured some of the greatest K-Pop acts such as EXO, Boys Republic, Jay Park, BEAST, Wonder Girls, while showcasing local Malaysia acts like Yuna, Joe Flizzow, Mizz Nina, Pop Shuvit, and Estranged.
Now that we’re only 2 sleeps away from the 7th edition of MTV World Stage Malaysia, we can hardly contain our excitement and we can definitely feel adrenaline constantly pumping through our veins.
With our favourite MTV VJs Alan and Hanli reprising their roles as the event’s hosts, this year’s MTV World Stage Malaysia is expected to be a whole lot crazier with more screams, more excitement, and more energy.
Find out why you should be so excited about this highly-anticipated one-night-only outdoor concert too:
1. Party with Sekai no Owari like it’s the last night of your life
For the first time ever, we will rock out to one of the world’s most popular Japanese bands, Sekai no Owari.
Formed in 2007, Sekai no Owari is a 4-member indie band consisting of leader/guitarist Shininchi Nakajima, lead vocalist Satoshi Fukase, pianist/stage producer Saori Fujisaki, and DJ LOVE. The band’s name basically means “the end of the world” in Japanese.
If there’s one thing that Sekai no Owari will deliver, it’s a high-octane live show. Having worked together with international musicians such as Owl City and Nicky Romero, the band is set to infect us with their upbeat nature of their music. With “Dragon Night” being a slightly EDM-influenced track, the band will definitely blow your socks off with their outstanding performances.
2. Fall head-over-heels in love with cutesy K-Pop group Apink
It doesn’t matter if you are straight or not, South Korean idol girl group Apink will make you fall deeply in love with them in many different ways.
Formed by A Cube Entertainment in 2011, the group consists of Park Cho-rong, Yoon Bo-mi, Jung Eun-ji, Son Na-eun, Kim Nam-joo, and Oh Ha-young. Though they are considered one of the top K-Pop idol girl groups, they did not let fame and popularity get to them as they remain humble and loyal to Pink Pandas (as fans of Apink are lovingly known).
From “Mollayo” (몰라요; You Don’t Know) to “NoNoNo” to “My My”, the 6-member girl group will get you under their spell with their highly addictive pop songs alongside their incredible synchronised choreographies. The girls will also charm you with their innocent child-like appearances and dorky personalities. While busting out some cutesy dance moves onstage, member Eunji will surely serenade you with her powerful vocals at one of the most happening nights ever.
3. Never a single “bosan” moment with Stacy
Nothing can get in between a singer and her/his loyal fans, as proven in the case of award-winning Malaysian singer Stacy.
Stacy is Malaysia’s #MostWanted act for this year’s MTV World Stage. Over the last 7 years, Stacy has proved her popularity by bagging more than 12 awards locally, including 2 awards at Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian and Album #1 at AIM Kulit Album Terbaik last year.
Not a single “bosan” (translation: boring) moment will be spent with Stacy as she is set to wow us with her mad dancing skills at the show this Saturday. If you’ve seen all of her music videos, you will definitely know why she is known as the “Malaysia Dancing Queen”.
4. Have a really, really, really, really, really, really good time with Carly Rae Jepsen
The best bit about MTV World Stage 2015? We are going to have a really, really, really, really, really, really good time with Canadian pop singer Carly Rae Jepsen!
Jepsen first burst into mainstream market with “Call Me Maybe”, a song that she co-wrote with Josh Ramsay, Ryan Stewart, and Tavish Crowe. The song became an instant hit and it managed to knock out several heavy-hitters on its way to the top spot. It was even named the “Song of the Summer” by Billboard magazine.
Now that she’s back with another hit single “I Really Like You”, we are guaranteed to have a good time with the singer at MTV World Stage 2015. You can expect to hear some new material from her latest album, “E*MO*TION”.
5. Watch Jason Derulo work that “wiggle”
If you’re an R&B fan, nothing would complete your MTV World Stage experience more than some spectacular performances from R&B singer-songwriter Jason Derulo.
The Miami-born singer is generally well-known for popular party hits such as “Talk Dirty” and “Wiggle Wiggle”. However, he has proven to be quite a talent with some relatively underrated songs hidden in his albums too. Regardless of the kind of songs that he releases, Derulo will always get us singing and dancing along at any given moment.
But of course, if he’s going to casually flash his beautiful abs at us, we promise we won’t make a single complaint…at all.
Can’t make it to the concert night? Fret not!
