The troll gets trolled.
The typically cynical Noel Gallagher took a shot at Avicii and other festival-headlining DJs in a series of interviews surrounding Scotland’s T In The Park festival earlier this month. Now Avicii and fellow Gallagher-shaded producer deadmau5 are responding to the High Flying Birds frontman.
Gallagher had said of his fellow headliner Avicii, “I don’t know anything about Avicii. I don’t wish to know anything about Avicii. It sounds like an artist from the Renaissance period.” Of the DJ’s then-impending set, Gallagher said “Don’t worry, I can save [the festival] after that.”
In another interview, he said that festivals are becoming “disturbing, if a dude in a hat and a pair of fake DJ decks pressing play on a CD player is what it’s all about. That’s quite a bleak future.”
Gallaghers’ comments essentially assert the current state of the music industry (the music itself, the fall of record stores, the rise of streaming) isn’t real, commendable, or something to take pride in. That we don’t wake up being proud of our producers, that it’s all for not. The former Oasis guitarist even goes as far to insult acts in his genre of music, the Arctic Monkeys, calling them “too cool for school”. Gallagher who has also previously made snarky comments about Ed Sheeran and Bastille, is perhaps just an old dog who can’t keep with the times but this sort of behaviour sure isn’t welcomed and Avicii has made that very clear by responding on Instagram.
His post of a “South Park” clip was accompanied by a caption saying, “Sounds like you’re playing the wrong festival if you’re at the same time dissing its entire audiences music taste you silly sausage! :O. (PS: Guess what: There are still good bands, still making great music that changes peoples lives, – what is really “sad” is hearing a old time musician like yourself confessing so bluntly and openly to not having an open mind to new music by dissing shit u havnt even heard , I really didnt think someone whose whole image is being witty would turn all stereotype ‘bitter ol timer rocker’ like that lol. I Wish you nothing but the best and hope you one day will broaden your music taste and keep developing urself as an artist and musicians.
I would actually love to preview you my album song by song and hear your honest feedback but I dare you to say the same thing afterwards // “Dude in a hat”🎩”.
EDM’s biggest troll deadmau5 also got in on the action. After Gallagher opened the interview with, “Hello, this is deadmau5 without the stupid f*cking hat,” he replied, “Well I’m Noel Gallagher, without the stupid accent”. Watch the video below:
