Say it ain’t so, Changmin!
South Korean top boy group TVXQ! is expected to go on a 2-year hiatus soon as maknae Changmin recently surprised fans by announcing at the press conference for his latest drama that he will enlist in the army soon.
The announcement came as a shock to the fans as they weren’t ready to see yet another TVXQ! member enlisting for his mandatory military service so soon.
On 7th July, SM Entertainment confirmed in an official statement:
Changmin has been accepted into a special unit for conscripted policemen. He plans to enlist by the end of this year.
There was a rush for enlistment as Changmin is approaching the maximum age of conscription in South Korea, which is 30 years old. Born in 1988, the 27-year-old singer-actor will fulfill his military requirement as a South Korean citizen. His fellow group member, Yunho, who’s now 29-year-old, will be enlisting later this month on the 21st.
Things have been emotional for the fans as this would mean that they won’t be able to see their beloved idol for 2 years. At their Tokyo Dome concert, Yunho was seen breaking down and crying uncontrollably while Changmin looked on with a sad expression on his face.
In other news, Changmin is currently starring in the MBC drama “Scholar Who Walks the Night”, which premieres on 8th July.
