Just like you, we have been waiting for YG Entertainment to announce the official debut of iKON. Following BIGBANG‘s triumphant return to the Korean music scene, the company finally shared some good news about its upcoming boy group.

On 17th June, a music industry insider revealed that that the agency is planning to debut iKON after BIGBANG wraps up their “MADE” series promotion this September.

According to the insider, the new boy group already “made over 50 songs in preparation for their official debut”, adding that they will “make their first step into the music industry by officially releasing their debut track as early as the end of August”.

A representative of YGE also stated:

iKON has their debut ahead of them in late-August. While the exact time frame is subject to change, it will not happen later than the second half of this year.

The group already amassed a huge following, despite not having officially debuted. Fans of the group have also taken to Twitter to share their excitement about the announcement:

#IKON IS FINALLY GOING TO DEBUT OMFG THEY ARE GOING GO KILL THE CHARTS AFTER MAKING US WAIT ALL THESE MONTHS/YEAR!!!

Korean netizens also found it hard to believe that YG will finally debut iKON, as the entertainment powerhouse is known for delaying their artistes’ debut or comeback.

iKON was previously slated to debut in January this year.

However, the report coincided with YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk‘s earlier interview with TV Report.

During the interview, he said:

After BIGBANG, iKON’s album will come out. These days, I have been holding meetings with iKON once every 3 days. For now, I think WINNER will be next following iKON’s debut album release. WINNER has already built up a fandom after debuting last year. They also won a rookie award. I think it’s only right to give iKON a debut opportunity first.

iKON members were chosen through Mnet’s survival program “MIX & MATCH” earlier last year. The final member, Bobby, made his name known through the 3rd season of rap competition “Show Me the Money 3″. He was featured as a rapper in HI SUHYUN’s “I’m Different” .

UPDATE (22nd July, 9am):

Great news, peeps. In an interview with OSEN, YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk confirmed that new K-Pop idol boy group iKON’s debut date is set for 15th September! He also explained that due to BIGBANG’s monthly releases between 1st May until 1st August, followed by their full MADE album release on 1st September, iKON was forced to adjust their debut schedule to avoid the overlap with their senior.

Mark the date, 15th September!

Are you ready for iKON’s debut? Because we are 😉
