After news broke that the 3rd “Pitch Perfect” movie will move forward at Universal Pictures, Kendrick took to Instagram to confirm that “Pitch Perfect 3” is indeed “aca-happening”.
Kendrick propelled to international fame through her role as Beca in the musical comedy which spawned a sequel earlier this year. The first “Pitch Perfect” film, which was directed by Jason Moore, was very well-received by the critics and became a sleeper hit for earning over $113 million worldwide. It is also the 2nd highest grossing music comedy film, behind Richard Linklater’s “School of Rock” (starring Jack Black and Miranda Cosgrove).
Due to its commercial success, “Pitch Perfect” co-star and producer Elizabeth Banks was hired to direct its sequel, with screenwriter Kay Cannon returning to pen the script. The 2nd film was produced by Paul Brooks, Max Handelman, and Banks.
In the sequel, the Barden Bellas gang were joined by 2 newcomers who were portrayed by Hailee Steinfield and Chrissie Fitt. They are expected to return to reprise their roles, but there is no official casting announcement.
So far, Universal Pictures only confirmed that Kendrick will return to the threequel alongside Rebel Wilson, who starred in the film as the infamous Fat Amy. The studio also confirmed that the franchise’s 3rd outing will be released on 21st July 2017. Cannon, who wrote the first 2 “Pitch Perfect” films, will return to pen the 3rd film but it is unclear whether Banks will return to helm the project.
