Through “The Strain” and “The Book of Life“, “Pan’s Labyrinth” director Guillermo del Toro is slowly creeping back to his Spanish horror roots via the upcoming release of his new film “Crimson Peak”.
Prior to the release of the film, Universal Pictures shared a first look at Jessica Chastain’s character, Lady Lucille Sharpe.
Co-produced by Legendary Picture and Universal Pictures, “Crimson Peak” is a supernatural thriller film that follows the story of Edith Cushing (played by Mia Wasikowska), a young author who will soon discover the horrifying truth behind her charming new husband.
The official synopsis is as follows:
In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds…and remembers.
“Crimson Peak” is one of the highly anticipated horror films in 2015 as it casts “Interstellar” actress Jessica Chastain and “Avengers” star Tom Hiddleston for the leading roles. The film also casts Mia Wasikowska and Charlie Hunnam for some major roles. Benedict Cumberbatch and Emma Stone were originally sought for Tom Hiddleston’s and Mia Wasikowska’s roles but eventually dropped out of the production.
Del Toro directed the film based on a script he co-wrote with Matthew Robbins and Lucina Coxon. The film is produced by Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, Callum Greene, and himself whileJillian Share executive produces. It was revealed that sexual and violent content are expected as it is a character-driven film that has been rated R.
At the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), the director allowed fans to get a gist of how the film is going to look like through the tour of the Crimson gallery at Legendary Pictures booth.
