Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock beats out Runner Runner by bringing in fifty-five million dollars in it’s debut weekend topping the box office.

The sci-fi film which is set almost entirely in space revolved around two astronauts who were faced with deadly complications during a spacewalk opened with $55.55 million in North America ticket sales. Previous chart topper, Cloudy With A Chance of Meatball 2 dropped to second place with $21.4 million while Runner Runner starring Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake opened in third place with $7.6 million.
