Expectant Orthodox Jewish parents Nachman and Raizel Glauber were rushing to the hospital because of a problem in the mother’s seventh month of pregnancy. The mother, Raizel complained that she couldn’t feel her unborn baby’s movements and under the principle that saving a life takes precedent over laws of the Sabbath, the couple hired a non-Jewish cab driver to the hospital.
Sadly, they never made it.
The couple, both 21 years of age, was riding in the back of a Toyota Camry cab in Brooklyn when a BMW that was reportedly speeding slammed into the couple around 12:30 a.m. The impact ejected Raizel from the cab, her body coming to rest underneath a parked tractor trailer. However, rescue workers had to cut open the cab in order to extricate the father. Both parents died of blunt-force trauma.
The miracle baby boy, who was delivered on the scene from the womb of the mother via Caesarean section, survived. Friends and family of the Glaubers have since decided to name the baby after his father.
Both Nachman and Raizel were buried almost immediately, putting their tragic stories with them to rest.
UPDATE:
The baby who was delivered prematurely after his young parents were killed in a car crash in Brooklyn has died. The baby’s initial survival was hailed by friends and family as a precious gift.
Meanwhile, the hit-and-run driver is still on the run and police haven’t stopped searching for him/her.
