Revellers and German beer fans came together on 22nd September to commemorate the launch of Malaysia’s month-long celebration of Oktoberfest at Brotzeit® German Bier Bar & Restaurant in Mid Valley Megamall. Fondly named the biggest beer party in the world, Oktoberfest draws more than six million people from around the globe to the festival’s birthplace of Munich, Bavaria for 16 days of feasting and downing pints of German beer.
The launch at Brotzeit® saw Dr Michael Feiner (Deputy German Ambassador), executing the “Tapping of the Barrel” ritual with Brotzeit®’s resident Bavarian chef, Helmut Murmann, a little after 7pm.

This age-old Oktoberfest tradition, which is accompanied by the declaration of “O’zapft is!” (meaning that the barrel has been successfully tapped), was held concurrently with the “Tapping of the Barrel” in Germany (12pm local time) by Christian Ude, the Mayor of Munich, to signify the commencement of the festival.
Debuting at the launch was the “Oktoberfest Platter” (RM255++), an original creation by Chef Helmut Murmann comprising a mouth-watering smorgasbord of Brotzeit®’s signature pork knuckle, meatloaf, lumberjack steak, garlic sausages, spicy chicken sausages and gypsy bacon slices served with a side of sauerkraut and potato salad.

Oh yum!
The merrymaking ensued throughout the night with Brotzeit®’s resident five-piece band, Deriolama, entertaining the crowd with a repertoire of pop songs as well as the traditional songs of Germany.

(Deriolama plays at Brotzeit® Mid Valley on Wednesdays and Brotzeit® Sunway on Thursdays)
