18 Guests Stuck In Lift At Hatten Hotel Melaka; 2 Victims Fainted Due To Breathing Difficulties

It seems that many of our lifts need proper maintenance work done as there have already been multiple cases of people trapped inside them. Earlier this month, a family was left soaking wet after being stuck in a lift at a shopping centre during a flash flood.

Prior to that, another family was stuck in a train station’s lift for nearly an hour before technicians managed to pry the door open. Unfortunately, a similar incident had happened again and this time it was at a hotel in Melaka.

A few days ago, the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department posted on their official Facebook page to report an incident that happened at Hatten Hotel Melaka, in Taman Melaka Raya, Melaka. According to the post, a total of 18 guests were stuck in the building’s lift between the 21st and 22nd floors. It was said that they received a call about the emergency at around 10:12am.

As seen in the photo above, the team managed to pry the door open and sure enough, the lift was stuck between the two floors. Thankfully, all the victims in the lift were safely brought out by the fire brigade. However, according to local news, two victims reportedly passed out in the lift due to breathing difficulties. It can be assumed that the victims were stuck in the lift for (more or less) an hour since the entire operation was completed around 11:05am.

As for the victims who passed out, they were immediately handed over to the Ministry of Health to receive treatment. We currently have no information on whether or not the Hatten Hotel Melaka has released a statement regarding the traumatising incident involving 18 of their guests but looking at their social media posts over the past few days, there has been no mention of it.

We’re glad that the victims are safe but we also hope that the hotel will look into this matter seriously and get their lifts up and running smoothly to avoid any similar incidents from reoccuring in the future.
