Groupon Malaysia, Miss Universe Malaysia Organisation (MUMO), and GRIM FILM today announced a collaborative effort to bring to life the “Be the Difference” fundraising campaign, which encourages Malaysians to help charitable causes.

“With ‘Be the Difference’ campaign we wished to demonstrate to society that with greater awareness, simplicity of modern technology and a little bit of generosity, a lot can be achieved in improving the lives and wellbeing of those less fortunate than ourselves. Through these collaborations with Miss Universe Malaysia Organisation and GRIM FILM we hope to further demonstrate the potential of group buying power, beyond that of personal or financial gain. It is a phenomenon that can and has made a difference in the lives of individuals and more and more Malaysians will come to appreciate the potential of what can be achieved when we all come together”, said Joel Neoh (Vice President and General Manager of Groupon Southeast Asia and India).

He further added that with the tremendous popularity of group-buying in Malaysia, the team at Groupon felt compelled to support those in need as a community service as the platform had proven itself extremely effective:

Through a special microsite hosted by Groupon, Malaysians will have over 300 hours to contribute to 17 separate causes which were chosen by the 17 finalists of the next Miss Universe Malaysia 2013. The full proceeds generated by “Be the Difference” campaign will then be channeled directly to these charitable organisations. The 17 organisations selected by the next Miss Universe Malaysia 2013 finalists are:

  1. Shelter Home for Children
  2. HOPE Worldwide
  3. Rumah HOPE
  4. SPCA Selangor
  5. KIWANIS Job Training Centre
  6. Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better
  7. Rumah Kasih Nurul Hasanah
  8. Dyslexia Malaysia
  9. The House of Joy
  10. The Good Samaritan House
  11. The Shepherd’s Centre Foundation
  12. The Saint Barnabas Home
  13. The Precious Children Home
  14. SPCA Sabah
  15. SPCA Sarawak
  16. Malaysian Nature Society
  17. Yayasan Chow Kit

The “Be the Difference” microsite will be featuring these 17 different causes on Groupon from 29th October to 11th Nov 2012. For further details and to contribute to the campaign, visit the microsite.
