16 LRT Stations On Kelana Jaya Line Closed For 1 Week; Commuters Demand Compensation

This year has been a pretty bad one for public transportation. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse, it did. The public has been experiencing LRT frequency and crowd control issues and RapidKL recently announced that we’ll have to wait another year to receive new trains.

Yesterday (Tuesday, 8th November), people in the Klang Valley were thrown a curve ball as half of the LRT stations along the Kelana Jaya line were shut down due to technical difficulties, again. Just hours ago, we received even more devastating news.

This morning (Wednesday, 9th November) at 5am, RapidKL announced that a total of 16 LRT stations along the Kelana Jaya are suspending their services for 1 whole week, from 9th until 15th November. The remaining stations within the Kelana Jaya line will operate as usual. Reasons were not officially given for the shutdown, but it is believed that it’s due to the same technical difficulties the stations were experiencing yesterday.

As damage control, RapidKL is offering free bus rides at several LRT stations. However, due to this, congestion, large crowds, and long queues are expected, especially during peak hours. Since yesterday, Malaysians have voiced their frustrations and dissatisfaction with the still unresolved LRT disruptions.

Many took to Twitter to express their anger for having to find last-minute alternatives to commute to work and go home late. As seen in the screenshots below, the people are demanding compensation for the damages caused and losses that they will be experiencing for the next 7 days.

At the time of writing, there is still no official statement released from RapidKL nor from the Ministry of Transport regarding the disruption issue. For those who are trying to commute to work, the RapidKL buses are available at certain locations, and the KTM and MRT services are still operational.
