HORS D’OEUVRES (Appetisers)
Escargot A La Provencale
Starting with the appetisers, the Escargot A La Provencale was a delightful beginning to our meal. The escargot were plump, delicious and drenched in rich, garlic butter that imparted a nutty flavour that complemented the tender escargot perfectly. If our whole meal was just snails then we would have been perfectly content. Snails, garlic butter and crunchy croutons you can’t get much better.
Clam Chowder A la Royale
Moving on to the Clam Chowder A la Royale, it was undoubtedly the star of the evening. The chowder was velvety smooth, aromatic, and generously packed with juicy Pacific clams. Its creamy yet light consistency was incredibly addictive, leaving me craving more. The buttery puff pastry, when dipped into the soup, provided a satisfying contrast in texture.
PLATS PRINCIPAUX (Mains)
Tournedos Rossini
For the mains, the Tournedos Rossini showcased a perfectly cooked Australian Grain Fed Tenderloin. Its marinated wine flavour added richness, making the sauce almost unnecessary. The foie gras was a highlight, with its melt-in-your-mouth texture and delightful sweet-savoury balance, pan-seared to perfection on the outside and luxuriously creamy inside. Each bite was of the meat was heavenly but while the dish excelled in its main components, the accompanying greens were overly salty, detracting slightly from an otherwise outstanding experience. Nonetheless, the impeccable execution of the meat and foie gras ensured a delectable dish overall.
Lemon Sole
Equally impressive was the impressively large Lemon Sole. It was flesh, flakey and light – with a delightful herb and lemony flavour that needed no enhancement from the accompanying red wine sauce. The dish was perfectly complemented by zesty fennel, adding a refreshing zing, while the potato fondant provided a pillowy soft and comforting contrast.
Le DESSERTS (Desserts)
Warm Banana Tart
The Warm Banana Tart for dessert was a delightful conclusion. Its biscuit-like crust gave way to a soft, gooey interior reminiscent of a soufflé, perfectly balanced in sweetness. The Coconut Ice Cream added a Malaysian twist with its gula melaka-like flavour, creating a unique and enjoyable end to the meal.
