If you’re not familiar with Haidilao (海底捞火锅), you may be surprised to learn that the hotpot restaurant does more than serve food and drinks. Some customers have reportedly visited the restaurant solely to enjoy the freebies like free manicures and massages. However, is Haidilao going to start offering free tutoring services?
Recently, Haidilao Singapore posted an opening on the job search site JobStreet. According to the posting, the restaurant chain is looking for tutors to teach at the secondary school level. The reported monthly salary for the full-time position ranges from SGD4,500 to SGD 6,700 (approximately RM15,800 to RM23,500).
Here are some of the qualifications required for the position:
- Possesses at least a degree in any field but applicants with a degree from a high-ranking university will have an advantage.
- Fluent in English and Chinese.
- Adequate teaching experience, preferably in secondary education.
- Highly passionate and can create engaging lessons.
- Results-driven with a positive attitude.
Unsurprisingly, netizens began questioning the reason for the job opening at Haidilao. Many jokingly asked whether the restaurant was opening a school or at least a tutoring business. On the other hand, some pointed out that the salary is surprisingly lucrative for a tutoring job and the qualifications are somewhat reasonable.
While Haidilao does offer additional perks for their customers, the tutors are not for those dining at the hotpot chain. According to a spokesperson for Haidilao Singapore, the recruitment is for the employees as part of their employee-friendly measures. The hired tutors will teach the employees’ children and provide educational support for them to obtain better learning and development opportunities.
What are your thoughts on this tutoring opportunity at Haidilao? Would you try your luck and apply?
