We’ve seen many Malaysian humans achieve great success on the international stage – but who knew our local felines could also make the country proud with their wins? Recently, a Malaysian cat was crowned the world champion at an international cat show!
Baby is a nine-year-old female cat from Malaysia, owned by Shaharudin Shuid and Rooaida Mohd Darus. The feline recently participated in the Fédération Internationale Féline-organised FIFe World Cat Show in Oslo, Norway. The event is one of the largest cat events in the world, where over a thousand cats compete for the World Winner crown. According to the official website, only 34 cats will get the prestigious title.

Despite competing against some of the best cats in the world, Baby won over the judges and the audience to become one of the 34 World Winners. The rescued stray cat won with her calm, affectionate demeanour and beautifully groomed coat. Baby’s owner, Rooaida, spoke about the win, saying, “It’s a huge honour for Baby to win the title after competing against 1,500 other chosen cats.”
This is actually Baby’s second appearance at a World Cat Show event. She previously participated in the 2017 edition in Amsterdam, where she reached the final round. Baby’s entry into the international competition was part of the Kelab Kucing Malaysia (Malaysia Cat Club) initiative. Also chosen to represent Malaysia in the competition were four British Short Hairs, three rescued strays, and a Bengal.

Congratulations to Baby, Shaharudin and Rooaida on the win! We hope this kitty’s accomplishment will inspire more local cat owners and cats.
