Following the announcement of the world’s longest water slide in Malaysia and the launch of The Rift (Virtual Reality (VR)/ Augmented Reality (AR) theme park), there’s another new attraction called Capital City.

Said to be Malaysia’s biggest indoor theme park, Capital City is also a resort and a shopping mall. The Capital World Limited-owned theme park recently made its concept launch at Jalan Tampo, Johor Bahru over the weekend.

The Capital City Indoor Theme Park will be an interactive venue that won’t just appeal to the children but also adults. “We believe the indoor theme park will be able to draw greater footfall to our mall as Capital City will be transformed into a one-stop entertainment hub and shopping haven in the heart of Johor Bahru,” said Siow Chien Fu, executive director and CEO of Capital World.

One of the main draws here is MCM Studio, which is also the 5th largest indoor theme park in the world. Situated on the 3rd and 4th levels of the mall, MCM Studio features 3 different concept studios – Movie Planet, Cartoon Planet and Music Planet. Each section will provide visitors with unique experience depending on the planet on different floors.

Details about MCM Studio’s 3 main sections are as follows:

  • Movie Planet has 10 main attractions including Transformers, Dinosaur World, Hollywood Stars, Haunted House, Pink Valentine, and more. Movie buffs can also enjoy an immersive experience with featured movie scenes using the latest Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technology.
  • Cartoon Planet is a “kiddy attractions” where classic animated characters (e.g.: Tom and Jerry) come to life through the usage of integrate AR and VR technology powers.
  • Music Planet is a combination of circus, theatrical and musical performances by “internationally renowned names” performed live on stage.

In addition to the theme park, the shopping complex will also 3 retail floors – each with its own thematic zones. These zones include elements from 5 different continents: America, Europe, Australia, Asia, as well as Middle East. That’s not all, there are also 2 hotels in development –  Hilton Garden Inn and Planet Hotel.

Capital City is expected to be fully ready by August this year while the 2 aforementioned hotels will probably open in 2019.

Christmas may be over, but that doesn’t mean you still can’t find an excuse to experience a magical meal at Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur’s new pop-up restaurant.

Themed “Find Your Lucky Stars”, the stunning interior invites diners to indulge in an out-of-this-world dining escapade for a limited time only. If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to eat your meal while surrounded by shimmering stars, this is your chance.

Find Your Lucky Stars
Source: Timchew

Conceptualised by multi award-winning global interior designer, Emma Maxwell, the one-of-a-kind pop-up restaurant made its debut last month at Sheraton Imperial for the holiday season (from 12th to 29th December 2017). Due to the well reception, it appears that “Find Your Lucky Stars” has been extended for another month.

That’s right peeps, foodies who wish to dine right beneath the stars and be swept away by the dreamy setting can do so from now till the end of the month (31st January). Curated by Chef Ho Boon, the exclusive new menu include tantalising meals such as Crispy Fried Irish Oyster, Double Boiled Chicken Consommé, Celestial Court Steamed Cod Fish, Strawberry and Chocolate Dumpling Pot Sticker, and more.

You can view the full menu here.

As guests walk through the threshold of the external austere and rigid structure, they are swept from the chaotic and bustling streets of Kuala Lumpur and submerged into a seductive and evocative “other” world. A scene that is the exact opposite of what they perceived from the rigidity of the exterior of the structure,” Emma Maxwell describes the journey.

The creative mastermind adds, “They will then, venture into a fantastical scene that initially doesn’t make sense to the human condition. Guests are placed ‘upside down’ in an evocative landscape, where the clouds and the tree tops are the basis for the floor and walls.” As seen from the GIF above, guests will witness the dark void space transform into a shimmering star field.

Each session is only limited to 12 people. Patrons wanting to experience “Find Your Lucky Stars” are advised to make reservations at Sheraton Imperial Hotel’s official website here. Meals are priced at RM438 nett with wine pairing or RM388 nett with mocktail.

Sing joyful, joyful, for Christmas is almost upon us!

It’s now become an annual tradition for shopping malls everywhere to compete for the best decorated Christmas themed mall of the year. 2017 is no different and we have compiled a list malls in Malaysia that have been doing a splendid job in spreading the Christmas cheer with their own unique decorations.

If you haven’t already done so, do take a stroll at these shopping centres and let us know which is your favourite:

1. Mid Valley Megamall – “Home for Christmas”

Source: Mid Valley

What we like: Instead of travelling to England, Mid Valley brought the English charm to the centre court at ground floor. Not only does the area have iconic red phone booths and a countryside train station, there are also various giants furry bears to hug and pose a picture with.

2. 1 Utama Shopping Centre – “A Joyous Christmas”

Source: Facebook

What we like: Wanna experience a White Christmas? 1 Utama is the place to find shimmering snowy clouds with lil snowmen. In addition to the whimsical winterland, there’s also a 6ft tall snow slide complete with a snowball pool for little ones to play and slide down the slope!

3. Sunway Putra Mall – “The Gift of Christmas”

Source: Facebook

What we like: Santa Claus is coming to town and he’s bringing lot of presents from his Toy Factory. Walk into Santa’s workshop and snap a selfie with him!

4. Paradigm Mall – “Train Ride to Christmasville”

Source: The Hive

What we like: Decorated into a children-friendly Christmasville, everyone is invited to attend this little village that promises performances and fun activities for families.

5. eCurve – “The Greatest Showman”

Source: Facebook

What we like: In conjunction with Hugh Jackman’s upcoming musical “The Greatest Showman”, eCurve is entertaining guests with a circus-themed display and performances this month.

6. Quill City Mall – “unBULLievable Christmas”

Source: Instagram

What we like: Similar to eCurve, Quill City Mall also has a “Ferdinand” movie tie-in with their Christmas deco. Here, you’ll get a taste of the Andalusia Spanish Village and their culture. There is also an impressive art exhibition featuring the beloved bull and other supporting characters.

7. Avenue K – “The Glittering Christmas Escapade”

Source: Hype

What we like: The recreation of the Big Ben and London Bridge are the 2 main highlights at Avenue K’s atrium. There’s even a white musical Christmas tree decorated with illuminated LED lights and glittering snowflakes.

8. Suria KLCC – “Santa’s Enchanted Forest”

Source: Hype

What we like: Yes, we see the giant 100 feet Christmas tree at the KLCC Esplanade every year, but the mall never fails to spin a new twist every time we see it. What impress us is the Christmas enchanted forest. A majestic cottage is connected to a tree house by a woven bridge. It’s truly a sight to behold.

9. Lot 10 – “The Spirit of Christmas”

Source: Hype

What we like: In the true spirit of the yuletide season, Lot 10 is collaborating with Honestbee to make this year’s Christmas a little bit more special for the underprivileged children and adults at Kirtarsh Home. Free gift-wrapping and delivery services are also provided.

10. Berjaya Times Square – “Enthralling Christmas”

Source: Hype

What we like: If you’ve always wanted to experience hopping on Santa’s sleigh, this is your chance! The mascots trio, Professor Cosmo, Oorts, and Ooops, are also on site to greet visitors.

11. Pavilion Kuala Lumpur – “Christmas is in the Air”

Source: Facebook

What we like: Trust Pavilion to always bring their A-game during festive seasons. With “Christmas is in the Air”, the mall has been transformed into a golden kingdom with magical hot air balloons hanging from the ceiling. You can also find a Line Christmas Carnival happening outside of Tokyo Street. Go win yourselves some exclusive Line merchandise while you’re there 😉

12. SkyAvenue, Resorts World Genting – “SkySymphony Christmas” + Snoopy Exhibition

What we like: If the various Snoopy exhibition and giant inflatable Snoopy santa isn’t enough to excite you, wait till you witness the 1001 light bulbs come to live in spectacular technical brilliance!

Other honorary mentions: Sunway Pyramid, IMAGO KK Mall, The Gardens Mall, Bangsar Shopping Centre, Penang’s Queensbay Mall, and Gurney Plaza.

What’s our verdict?

There’s no doubt the competition has been fierce this year. For us, it’s a tie between KLCC, Pavilion, and SkyAvenue. Each of these malls gave us something we’ve never seen before in Malaysia. What about you? Do you have a favourite Christmas mall decoration?

Home to some of the most successful rides from around the world, Legoland Malaysia hit yet another milestone since recently celebrating its 5th anniversary. Called The Great Lego Race, the theme park officially launched the Lego Virtual Reality (VR) Roller Coaster on Wednesday morning (22nd November).

Previously known as the Project X ride, visitors can now enjoy double the fun thanks to the tech makeover which combines cutting-edge virtual reality technology with roller coaster thrills. Imagine yourself being transport into the Lego toy world and racing with the Lego characters. Here are the top 5 highlights from our experience:

1. The first Lego VR Roller Coaster in the world

Legoland Malaysia
Source: Legoland Malaysia

Uh huh, Legoland Malaysia has the honour of being the first in the world to introduce a Lego VR Roller Coaster. The new adventure brings together a host of different themes, characters, storytelling, and action, then adds a dash of Lego fun. At The Great Lego Race, participants will also be treated to a lively display of their competitor’s pit crew while the race to the finish line is going on.

The duration of the ride is 3 minutes long while the maximum number of passengers is 4. There is also a requirement that those who wish to ride with the VR headset has to be above 6 years old and 120cm. However, you can still get on the roller coaster without the VR headset.

2. The Archway features murals of the main racers

It is expected that the line for The Great Lego Race will be long, especially during weekends and holidays. While you’re in the waiting area, you can kill time by checking out the colourful murals there. They are 5 racers that will be competing in The Great Lego Race. The aforementioned characters are Pirate Captain, Pharaoh, Wizard, Trendsetter, as well as Surfer Girl. The best part? These murals comes with each of its own interesting sound system.

3. Meet the 5 main characters at The Great Lego Race

Legoland Malaysia
Source: Legoland Malaysia
  • Pirate Captain (who steers a dinghy with a turbine-powered sail) – “A real pirate is a merciless, rotten son of sea dog, and that’s exactly what the Pirate Captain aspires to be. He certainly looks the part with his rugged eye-patch, hook-hand and peg-leg.”
  • Pharaoh (rides an ornate canopied bed carried by mummified servants) – “This Pharaoh of ancient Egypt woke up in a museum one day, and he’s been a little confused ever since. He doesn’t know how or why he’s in the modern world, but it’s definitely taking some getting used to!
  • Wizard (drives a dragon-themed hot-rod) – “The wise and kindly Wizard has studied the magical arts for many years, and few are better than he at crafting spells, enchantments and useful elixirs. He knows just the right rhymes for undoing curses, and can cure hexes with a touch of his crystal-tipped staff.”
  • Trendsetter (rides an espresso-fuelled scooter with a sidecar for her tiny dog) – “The Trendsetter has to really think about the trends she’s going to set. If everybody buys her favourite clothes, then there won’t be any left for her, and people know what movie she’s planning to see, the theatre might sell out before she gets there.”
  • Surfer Girl (rides a rocket-powered windsurfing rig) – “As long as the sky is clear and the surf is wild, the Surfer Girl can be found right in the middle of her element, riding the tallest wave she can find and whopping at the top of her lungs the whole way back to the beach.”

4. The real fun begins with the cool VR headset

Legoland Malaysia
Source: Lowyat.net / Legoland

Before you get on the ride, you’ll be given a VR headset (decorated with Lego eyes) powered by the Samsung Gear VR. Make sure that your headset is secure and fit by adjusting the red knob on the back. This is to avoid the headset from sliding down your cheeks when you experience extra force during the sudden drop or when the race car takes a sharp turn. It doesn’t matter that there are 4 passengers per ride because you’re basically a solo racer in your own Lego car.

5. Take home a snapshot of your candid moment

Throughout the turns and drops, a snapshot of your candid moment will be captured. For RM60, you can get a printed version of yourself and your friends enjoying the thrilling ride. Even though The Great Lego Race is catered to the younger generation, adults will also enjoy this new attraction just as much.

Still not convinced? Perhaps this video might change your mind:

To quote writer Hilary White, “nothing in life is perfect, but Disneyland comes pretty damn close“. Sure, you may have to bear with the humid weather and crowds. But the happiest place on earth makes it worth it.

In celebration of its 12th year of operation, Hong Kong Disneyland (HKDL) is upping the ante with new magical attractions. Those who have recently been to the theme park, you’ve probably been introduced to “Star Wars: Tomorrowland Takeover” and the “Iron Man Experience”. Guess what? Disney-park-lovers can expect 2 new more.

1. “Star Wars: Tomorrowland Takeover”

Thanks to Hong Kong Disneyland, a galaxy far, far away is much closer to Malaysia. Aspiring Jedi apprentices are recruited to don Jedi robes and join a secret training session with Jedi masters. Besides that, guests will get to enter the “Hyperspace Mountain”, a reimagined from Tomorrowland’s classic attraction Space Mountain, and also journey to a hidden Resistance base, the “Star Wars: Command Post”. There, you’ll get to meet Wookiee pilot Chewbacca and resourceful astromech droid R2-D2.

2. “Iron Man Experience”

  • Launched on January 2017

Fans of The Avengers were thrilled when the first ever Marvel-themed ride debuted at HKDL’s Tomorrowland earlier this year. In the amazing world of Stark industries, Marvel lovers will get to visit the “Stark Expo” (exhibition halls of Iron Man suites and other leading advancements), take a thrilling aerial tour of the city via the “Iron Man Experience”, and meet the hero himself at the “Iron Man Tech Showcase”.

Although there are many princess-y attractions in HKDL, another brand new Disney princess-themed garden is set to debut next month. The garden will feature the park’s first “Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique”, a magical beauty salon where young girls will be given a princess makeover complete with hairstyling, makeup and princess costume. The magical moment wouldn’t be complete without snapping a picture or 2 with their beloved Disney princesses right?

4. “Moana: A Homecoming Celebration”

You’ve watch the fearless Disney princess on the big screen, now get ready to experience “Moana: A Homecoming Celebration”. An 18-minute live show that will centre on Moana’s adventures in her home village of Motunui. The storyline takes places after the warrior princess has restored the heart of Te Fiti (the all-powerful goddess who creates life). Located in the Adventureland section, visitors will get to enjoy the architecture and decor of Motunui in an entirely new outdoor location.

Here are more highlights happening in the coming months:

Aside from the aforementioned, HKDL also has plans to build a “Frozen” theme park and a full-fledge “Marvel” theme park. More for information, check out HKDL’s Facebook page.

In the day and age where it seems like so many people you know have been to Bali and experienced the usual “sights and sounds” e.g. Tahan Lot, Kuta beach, the rice terraces, Uluwatu Temple, Ubud, so on and so forth, you’d be hard-pressed to find out-of-the-ordinary things to do on the Indonesian island.

Even the whole private/luxury villas experience has be done over and over. And you’ve probably heard the same old story again and again. So if you think that Bali is overrated, that’s because you haven’t been told about Hideout Bali, an eco bamboo home that promises an “off-grid life” and of course, total relaxation.

Located in Selat, Bali, the unique eco stay is perfect for adventurous travellers as it is hidden in the mountains. The all-bamboo house is situated right next to a beautiful river, among rice fields. There, visitors will be able to escape the hustle and bustle of the “party island Bali” and touristy areas, and truly immerse in the authentic rustic Balinese village life. In fact, Hideout Bali promises total solitude as the nearest village is about 500 metres away.

Built and handcrafted in 2015 with the support of many local workers, the bamboo home welcomes long-time travellers, lovers of nature, spiritual-minded people, trekking-lovers, backpackers, artists, musicians, and eco-enthusiasts. Surrounded by lush greenery that’s pleasing to the eye, the 1-bedroom home has large windows that opens up to the beautiful vista.

Hideout Bali promises to calm your senses, and allow you to soak in the good vibes and energy. If you love yoga, then this gem of a place will really compliment your spiritual journey and nourish your soul. Be warned though, the accommodation has no air-conditioning but thanks to it’s bamboo structure (bamboo is well-known for its temperature stability) and natural ventilation, there’s no need for that.

There’s also a bean bag and a hammock that visitors can lounge in to sing, write, meditate, chill, play board games, you name it. And doesn’t that bed motivate you to do absolutely nothing all day?

Oh, but be prepared to put your gadgets away as you may face poor Internet/data connection due to Hideout Bali’s location but hey, what’s an “off-grid experience” if there was high speed broadband of 4G/LTE eh? Psst! Pet-loving short stay tenants will also be pleased to know that Hideout Bali has residents catties and doggos to render you completely giddy with love 😉

Interested? Check out hideoutbali’s Instagram for more information or hit up their Airbnb listing to book.

Ever been to a waterfall restaurant before? If not, you might want to add this to your bucket list.

Called Labasin Waterfalls Restaurant, the eatery is located at Villa Escudero Plantations and Resort in Quezon Province, east Manila. It’s perhaps the only place in the world that allows guests to enjoy a thundering live waterfall up close while their meals.

The unique experience at the waterfall restaurant offers visitors a glimpse at Philippines’ heritage and culture. Formerly a coconut plantation, it was transformed into a jungle-side restaurant that serves traditional Filipino buffet on bamboo leaves. Local dishes include Miswa soup, pancit canton, grilled pork liempo, lechon manok, and a wide variety of fresh salad as well as grilled or steamed fish and vegetables.

The bamboo tables and chairs are situated right next to the Labasin Falls. In between meals, diners can even cool off in the cool spring water or get a quick head massage against the wall of the waterfall. It’s a watery thrill unlike any other, to say the least.

Check out some of the amazing shots here:
