After the controversial public caning of 2 lesbian woman which has given Malaysia worldwide attention, it seems that another woman in Malaysia is set to be caned Terengganu for selling her body in a hotel.
The woman is a 30-year-old single mother who has a 7-year-old daughter. She pleaded guilty for offering sexual services for between RM300 and RM3,000, The Star reports.
Like every other nationwide controversial issue, this case has been widely discusses and there are 2 sides of the party; the liberals who reject the punishment and request the authority to make further investigation on the circumstances of the single mother, and the religious who believe that the woman deserve her punishment as prostitution goes against Islam teachings.
Naturally, supermodel Alicia Amin stands on the liberal side and she too has voiced out her thought on the matter.
Yesterday, she retweeted and replied one particular tweet which read “I don’t believe in the story of “prostituting because couldn’t find a job”. There are tons of lawful works that pay more than low class prostitution. The problem is being lazy and choosing the easy street. Even a maid gets higher pay than street prostitute.”

In her reply, Alicia said, “I dunno where people get the idea that someone would want to be a prostitute because “they’re lazy”. Maybe it’s non-tiring for men to have sex, but woman in sex work have to go through so much, they could be abused and mistreated. Your lack of perspective is showing.”
According to Malaysia Kini, she has pleaded guilty and was charged under Section 25 of the Syariah Offences Enactment (Takzir) 2001, where she may receive a punishment of up to 3 years jail, a fine of up to RM5,000, caning of up to 6 strokes, or a combination of the three.
Since the woman cannot afford the fine, she pleaded for a lighter sentence and told the court that her former husband had failed to pay alimony or provide any financial support since she divorced seven years ago. Her punishment will be decided on Thursday, 27th September.
