- Rapid Decomposition: PLA decomposes at a rate exceeding 90% in industrial composting facilities, significantly reducing the time it takes to break down compared to traditional plastics, which can persist for hundreds of years. Santan’s paper cups with PLA coating are home-compostable certified.
- Reduction in Carbon Emissions: The shift to PLA is projected to reduce carbon emissions by 472 tonnes annually across AirAsia’s network. Made from renewable resources like corn and cassava, PLA production emits fewer greenhouse gases compared to petroleum-based plastics, lowering AirAsia’s overall carbon footprint.
