Things have definitely been looking up for MsPuiyi (Siew Pui Yi) this year. Aside from launching her scholarship programme, the 24-year-old’s first Malay movie will be released! That’s right, “Pulau” will be hitting cinemas on 9th March.
Horror movie “Pulau” has been a hot topic recently, and it mostly has to do with MsPuiyi. Malaysians allegedly weren’t happy to discover she had several raunchy scenes in the film. However, it was recently revealed that most of those scenes have been removed. To our surprise, the budding star is fine with that!
Yesterday (28th February), “Pulau” got its first screening with the media. But, it was noted that most of the publicised intimate scenes between MsPuiyi’s and fellow actor Vikar’s characters had been removed. While we’re sure this is disappointing for some fans, MsPuiyi herself isn’t hung up about it.
“This movie allows Malaysians to see their own culture (on screen),” the 24-year-old pointed out. “I think it’s something to be proud of.” But, MsPuiyi did admit that she had enjoyed the filming. “I didn’t expect the director to make me look so dreamy,” she shared, adding that the filming had also motivated her to get her driving license.
Unlike MsPuiyi, Vikar had been rather nervous about said intimate scenes. It didn’t help that his girlfriend had wanted to “observe” while they filmed it. Still, Vikar only had praises for MsPuiyi. “She is a super nice person,” he stated. “(She made) me feel comfortable and at ease during the shoot.” Vikar even teased MsPuiyi’s current boyfriend, Mark O’Dea by saying: “You stole my woman!”
“Pulau” is currently listed as PG-13. However, it is still banned from release in Terengganu. Producer Fred Chong shared they are hoping to get approval to lift the ban. Fred added that the final film for Malaysia was cut 10 times prior to its release. But, he claims this is fine, as he wants to “respect the country and culture” of Malaysia.
Well, although MsPuiyi’s most awaited scenes might not be seen in this film, there’s always an extended version for streaming. In fact, the budding star shared she hopes to film more action and romance movies in the future!
