As we get ready to ring in the “Year of the Dog”, most shopping malls are already decorated in the vibrant ambience of Chinese New Year. For those who are based in Kuala Lumpur and don’t have to balik kampung, mall-hopping would be an ideal activity to do with your friends and family.
We’ve handpicked some of the most Instagram-worthy shots from these shopping malls in the Klang Valley to visit. Here is the list of 10 must-visits malls in no particular order:
1. Avenue K
From now till 25th February, step into Avenue K’s Bloom of Grandeur at the Atrium Ground Floor and treat yourself to a shopping spree. From artisan chocolates, accessories and traditional apparels to decorative items and gifts, there are plenty of auspicious items for everyone.
2. KLCC
After admiring the Tallest Outdoor Chinese Lantern Replica with the Twin Towers, feel free to enjoy the colourful atmosphere authentic tea garden. You’ll notice tea houses acting as booths and fake tea leaves on real bamboo racks.
3. Pavilion KL
In celebration of “Dream Garden of Prosperity”, Pavilion KL’s centre court has been adorned with 8,888 Prosperity Petals as part of the mall’s colourful gardens. Cherry and plum blossoms signify the end of winter and the blooming of spring, which basically symbolises the Mother Earth “coming back to life”.
4. Mid Valley Megamall
Mid Valley Megamall is filled with “Bountiful Blossoms” this festive season. That’s right peeps, Mid Valley’s main halls has been given a floral sanctuary makeover. You can find thousands of flowers adorn lattice work here. There are even giant bird cages decorated with green, pink and purple ornaments.
5. Sunway Pyramid
According to the official statement, Sunway Pyramid’s Chinese New Year decoration is inspired by the setting before the Revolutionary Era in Zhouzhuang. The town in the province of Jiangsu is well known for its canals. When you visit the LG2 Orange Concourse, you’ll notice cherry blossoms, willows, imperial guardian lion statues, wooden infrastructure, even a river that flows through the centre.
6. The Curve
The Curve has adopted the theme “Lady of Spring” for 2018. As you can see, the mall currently exudes a heavenly feel that harkens back to Chinese folklore. Filled with pastel-coloured props, there are also fog-like mechanisms that help to create a lush mountaintop surrounding.
7. 1 Utama
1 Utama invites you to come bloom with them at LG Oval and GF Centre Court and soak in the festive mood with lively lion dances, CNY shopping and charming decorations! It’s a tad basic but we have to admit that the pink colour does balance out the strong red colour tone. The willow trees along the yellow carpet walkway also adds a nice touch to the scenery.
8. Sunway Putra Mall
Hoping to catch some “Wind of Blessings” for extra luck? Sunway Putra Mall has been transformed into a mandarin orange garden adorned with colourful pinwheels, majestic lanterns and a traditional pagoda. Guess what? Visitors can also smell the mandarin garden and feel as though you’re in an actual garden.
9. MyTOWN
Christmas may be over, but what the heck. There’s still an excuse to bring on the snow. MyTOWN is perhaps the only mall to celebrate Chinese New Year in a winter atmosphere. The garden is decorated with cherry blossoms in an imperial palace setting. Patrons can also pose against the bodegas and the artificial river at the venue.
10. IOI City Mall
Everywhere you go, there are bound to be cherry blossoms. IOI City Mall is no different. This mall’s unique addition is the distortion walkway. Inside a triangle path are two panes of mirrors on the sides. To quote Nicole Ng, it feels more like Cirque du Soleil than a Chinese New Year pathway.
Out of the aforementioned 10 malls, which one are you most impressed by? Do share your thoughts with us even if your favourites are not in this list 😉
