Prep yourselves peeps, Marvel’s God of Thunder is going to look slightly different in his upcoming solo adventure.
Entertainment Weekly has unveiled our first glimpse at “Thor: Ragnarok”, teasing fans with a makeover from Thor and offering fans an official first look at Cate Blanchett and Tessa Thompson as Hela and Valkyrie, respectively.
This will be Thor’s 3rd solo outing, so obviously it was time to change things up with a rocking new hairdo. Instead of Thor’s signature long blonde hair, Chris Hemsworth is now sporting a modern buzz cut with dark hair.
While the 33-year-old actor didn’t explain the reason behind this makeover, he did express that he was grateful for the modern do. “It was nice not to have to sit in the makeup chair for that hour each morning. It felt like a rebirth for me as the actor but also as the character,” said Hemsworth.
The action begins when the villainous Hela is accidentally unleashed from a prison and she’s pissed as hell. To prepare for the role, Blanchett shared that she learned capoeira, the Brazilian martial art discipline, under iconic stuntwoman Zoe Bell.
“She’s been locked away for millennia getting more and more cross, and then, with a mistake, she gets unleashed and she ain’t getting back in that box,” the Oscar-winning actress told the publication. After Hela attacks Thor, she banishes him to a desolate planet named Sakaar.
For years, fans have been wanting to see a big-screen adaptation of Planet Hulk. While “Thor: Ragnarok” won’t feature a straight up adaptation of the iconic Planet Hulk comic books, it will include a number of elements in the film, including the planet of Sakaar.
While trapped in Sakaar, Thor is forced to become a gladiator and battle his Avengers frenemy Hulk (played by Mark Ruffalo). “(Sakaar is) basically where every wormhole across the universe dumps out its trash, so you get people from all walks of life with all sorts of incredible abilities and powers. No one cares what prince or king Thor may have been in another world,” Hemsworth explained. “Also, his strength is pretty easily matched with those he finds himself amongst.”
The publication also gives us our first look at Jeff Goldblum in his Marvel Cinematic debut as the manipulative Grandmaster. “He’s a hedonist, a pleasure-seeker, an enjoyer of life and tastes and smells,” Goldblum previously told Empire.
As “one of the oldest living beings in the universe”, Marvel wiki states that “the Grandmaster has spent his extraordinary long life in pursuit of amusement through the playing of games. He has traveled throughout the known universe studying many civilisations’ forms of games and play to the point of mastering them. He then began to devise his own types of tournaments and contests, challenging various opponents to games of skill and chance for high stakes.”

Looking at the Entertainment Weekly cover, Thor is holding 2 large swords rather than his mystical hammer Mjolnir. This may serve as confirmation that his hammer will be destroyed by Hela before being banished from Asgard.

“Thor: Ragnarok” will smash its way into theatres on 3rd November 2017.
