A routine circumcision for a 10-year-old boy turned ugly when the doctor cut off the head (glans) of his penis by mistake.
According to The Star, the incident happened last Tuesday (20th December) night at a clinic in Taman Cheras Utama. The procedure was performed using a laser scalpel.
Though the boy was first rushed to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital (HUKM), the doctors there then referred him to Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) for surgery to reattach the head of his penis. The boy’s father filed a police report at HKL.
It was reported that the doctor who performed the circumcision has 21 years of experience and is a graduate from the University of Karachi in Pakistan. Beside that, the clinic, which has been operating for 15 years, is not registered under the Health Ministry.
The said doctor has since lodged a report and had admitted that an accident had happened during the laser-based procedure. When contacted, Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Othman Nanyan confirmed that the incident had indeed taken place.
