Starring renowned Japanese actor Takuya Kimura as the titular character Manji, the upcoming live-action adaption is directed by prolific director Takashi Miike (of “Ichi the Killer” and “13 Assassins” fame).
“Blade of the Immortal” is based on Hiroaki Samura’s best-selling manga series of the same name and it follows a cursed samurai named Manji, who has to kill 1000 evil men in order to regain his mortality. In the past, his criminal actions led to the death of 100 men, including his sister’s husband.
Set in Japan during the mid-Tokugawa Shogunate period, Manji befriends a young girl named Asano Rin (played by Hana Sugisaki) and promises to help her avenge her parents, who were killed by swordsmen led by Anotsu Kagehisa (played by Sato Fukushi).
