An American Reddit user, who goes by the name of kroopthesnoop, posted several photos of his co-worker’s charred iPhone 7 plus, which was pre-ordered online. He claimed that the phone arrived in a damaged condition, suggesting that the phone might have exploded during transit.
The Reddit post, titled “Running a little hot”, was submitted 2 days ago.
The series of photos, which went viral, show a damaged box and a severely disfigured black iPhone 7 Plus. In his post, he also mentioned that Apple has contacted his co-worker and a new phone will be sent to him soon. “Don’t know what the timeline for ‘expedited’ is with AT&T, but I will update again when the new phone arrives,” he wrote.
It is still unsure why the phone exploded and as at time of writing, Apple has yet to make a statement.

The news comes after Samsung issued a worldwide recall of the Note 7 nearly a month ago, prompting many netizens to joke about how Apple likes to “copy” Samsung’s smartphone features.
“F–king Apple, always stealing features from Samsung,” wrote Obiiiiiiii, a Reddit user, while Facebook user Ioannou wrote, “Oh no my dear Samsung, iPhone 7 devices explode better”.
This is not the first time an iPhone caught fire. In August, an Aussie cyclist suffered 3rd-degree burns after his iPhone 6 exploded.
