The struggle of looking for that perfect accommodation in Singapore is real, especially since there’s a sudden mushrooming of boutique hotels across the country.
What makes a boutique hotel count as outstanding varies from person to person. To some, it’s all about the quaint spaces that create a distinct and unique experience. To others, it’s about the personal touches. But no matter how you define a perfect accommodation, Naumi Liora is sure to be on the top of your “must-stay” list.
We were recently in Singapore for the International Music Summit Asia Pacific and Zouk Out 2015 weekend and had the privilege to make Naumi Liora our home base.
And we have a number of reasons why we think you should consider staying at the award-winning Naumi Liora on your next trip to Singapore:
1. It is conveniently located near MRT stations & key city districts
Getting to Naumi Liora isn’t difficult as it is located at the historic Keong Saik district, which makes for the perfect stay if you’re just visiting Singapore for a few days. The hotel is also just a short walk away from both Chinatown and Outram MRT stations.
The journey from the airport to the hotel by taxi should take about 30 minutes and will cost approximately SGD20. Alternatively, you can get to the hotel via MRT and the travelling time is approximately 1 hour.
The nearby key city districts include Marina Bay, Central Business District, Suntec City, Orchard Road, Boat Quay, and Clarke Quay. They are just a few minutes away via MRT, bus services, or taxi cabs.
2. Its neighbourhood is historically charming
The Keong Saik district is a charming neighbourhood with an eclectic mix of tenants. Believe it or not, the district was once a prominent red-light district with a high concentration of brothels frequented by sleazy men. Of course, that has changed since the 1990s.
The district has now been taken over by a slew of fancy restaurants, unique shops, hip coffee joints, and plenty of watering holes. At least 4 boutique hotels have occupied the buildings along Keong Saik as well. However, Naumi Liora shines among all the hotels with its eye-catching pumpkin-coloured exterior, as well as its white French-style windows and doors.
The hotel doesn’t have its own restaurant yet, but it provides complimentary breakfast at the famed Tong Ah Eating House on Keong Saik Road.
3. It has a comfortable check-in lounge with helpful staff
It’s easy to see why Naumi Liora is quickly becoming a glowing urban oasis within Singapore’s bustling city centre for business and leisure travellers alike.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by the front desk staff with a warm welcome, as if we are part of something special. They are thoughtful and attentive, ensuring that all your need is provided. The hotel attendant is incredibly helpful as he will escort guests to their rooms and show them how to use some of the hotel facilities.
The check-in lounge is nothing short of breathtaking too. It is spacious and exudes the kind of old-school charm, transporting you back to the colonial period.
4. “Nibble”-all-you-can at the lobby’s free snacks bar
Aside from the comfortable check-in lounge, there is a complimentary 24-hour self-serve Nibbles snack bar at the lobby.
Guests are free to treat themselves to the small tidbits ranging from ice creams to candies to crackers at any time of the day. These snacks are replenished daily to ensure optimal freshness. Alcohol is provided too, but they’re chargeable. Alternatively, guests can indulge in liquor shots from 4:30pm to 6:30pm daily.
Guests can also socialise with other guests at the check-in lounge while enjoying the Nespresso coffee or fine teas.
5. Its vibrant exteriors & interiors will leave you fixated
Never mind that Naumi Liora was once a centuries-old Peranakan-styled building, the boutique hotel catches attention with the stylistic details of its vibrant facade designed by Gaurang Khemka, the founder of Singapore-based award-winning design firm URBNarc. The French-style windows and doors, as well as the original timber flooring, bring a bit of old-school nostalgia to the hotel that is surrounded by post-war colonial buildings.
Upon entering the hotel, you will walk past mini figurine sculptures by local artist/sculptor KY Huang. These sculptures, which can also be found around the hotel in their various states of work and play, are reminiscent of Chinatown’s illustrious past and the vibrant environment that Naumi Liora presents. The guest chairs near the entrance make for an even more welcoming setting.
6. There is a diversity of room choices
Ever checked into a hotel so good that you wish that the entire building was yours? Though Naumi Liora is a midscale heritage boutique hotel, there’s something about its rooms that will make you feel right at home.
The 79-room property comprises of 3 different room categories. Each room category is sized uniquely to preserve the delicate existing building structures without compromising on modern amenities. The craftsmanship help create an intimate environment that rejuvenates and soothes guests all at the same time.
- Liora Quaint
Though all rooms in Liora Quaint are windowless rooms, each room evokes the charm of an urban loft with its high ceiling. Located on level 3, the rooms delight guests with the serenity of a windowless room, ensuring utmost privacy in the bustling city of Singapore.
The Liora Quaint rooms are relatively smaller than the rooms in other categories, but each room feels more spacious and the cosy ambience will keep guests well-rested before their next adventure in the city.
- Liora Heritage
The Liora Heritage rooms are not as spacious as the other rooms, but they leave enough space for guests to move around. The rooms also feature the elegant French-style windows, allowing guests to enjoy the picturesque views of the lively Keong Saik Road.
With business travellers and families in mind, the rooms are available with single or double bedding options. Guests can expect to wake up in the morning to the soft sunlight penetrating through the windows.
- Liora Porch
Nothing beats a day spent lounging on the private porch of a room in the busy metropolis like Singapore.
The Liora Porch rooms are the biggest rooms in Naumi Liora. Each room has a porch that overlooks the Duxton Plain Park, offering guests a chance to enjoy peace, solitude, and privacy in a beautiful natural setting. Work stations are also fitted in these rooms and a personal Nespresso machine is at guests’ disposal.
7. The room has everything that guests could possibly need!
All well-appointed rooms are furnished with the essentials for guests to feel adequately prepared for the trip.
From premium bath amenities to the hair dryer to the ironing board, everything that guests could possibly need throughout their stay is provided. The bedroom is also smartly furnished with an open concept wardrobe with a few hangers so that damp towels can get dry faster. This also ensures that no unpleasant smell will be left on the clothes.
For entertainment purpose, an LCD TV with cable channels is installed in each room. The complimentary mini bar is stocked with coffee, tea, and soft drinks as well. Should guests need a handphone charger, they can borrow one at the reception. Guests can also enjoy free, high-speed WiFi every day during their stay.
8. Stay perfectly on track as the fitness room opens all day errday
Whether or not you’re a health freak, staying fit throughout your stay at Naumi Liora will not be a problem.
Though there’s no swimming pool in the hotel, there’s a fitness room that opens all day every day. Guests can go to the 24-hour fitness room on the ground level at any time of the day, but it is certainly best to go during unearthly hours to avoid the morning crowd.
The gym itself is pretty small, as it only has one set of every regular workout equipment including a treadmill, an elliptical trainer, a stationary bike, and so on. All of them are equipped with a TV screen and there’s free-flow of bottled mineral water as well as clean towels for anyone who uses the gym.
If the fitness room is full, you can always jog at the park nearby while enjoying the natural breeze and greenery.
