Blink and you would probably miss it.
Yesterday, the Menara Kuala Lumpur aka KL Tower lit up in a display of blue, white, and red lights to symbolise the French flag. The very touching display of support was seen for one minute every hour, from 12 midnight till 7am.
In case you missed it, France was declared a nation state of emergency after at least 100 people were killed in multiple, near simultaneous gun and bomb attacks in Paris on Friday (Paris time) evening. The gun and bomb attacks appear to have targeted busy restaurants and bars at locations around Paris, with the deadliest attack targeted the Bataclan concert hall.
Regarding the decision to light KL Tower up, KL Tower CEO Meor Shahril Anuar Ahmad Rathuan said as a member of the World Federation of Great Towers, the light display on the 400m tower was created in solidarity with the victims and also to denounce terrorism. The Star Online quoted him as saying, “We wanted to show the support of Malaysians towards the victims and to say that terrorism is never right. We pray that Paris will be brightened up again after this dark incident.”
But we’re not the only ones, of course, as landmarks around the world also showed support to our Paris friends. The One World Trade Centre (New York), the Sydney Opera House (Australia), and the San Francisco City Hall were also lit in blue, white, and red in solidarity with France.
