Follow the yellow brick road and you may find yourself stepping into “Hello Kitty in Oz“, the latest attraction to open at Sanrio Hello Kitty Town in Puteri Harbour, Nusajaya, Johor.
That’s right, Hello Kitty fans!
A “Wizard of Oz”-themed attraction has officially opened its doors to the public on this year’s Halloween (31st October 2015).
“Hello Kitty in Oz” features a themed setting that evokes childhood memories of Hello Kitty and “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”, a beloved children’s classic written by author L. Frank Baum.
With Hello Kitty taking on the mantle of the Great Witch of Oz, the new walk-through attraction promises to transport guests to Oz in Sanrio Hello Kitty Town, the first theme park of its kind in the world outside of Japan.
Last week, we were lucky enough to be given an exclusive sneak peek at the magical attraction before it was officially opened.
A total of 4 interactive games are featured in the new whimsical attraction and they are proved to be suitable for both children and adults.
Entering the attraction in sessions, guests will begin their journey in the company of the Librarian. You may first find yourselves getting lost in the Mirror Maze before moving on to play the games. Of course, the Oz Guardians will be present at every game to enhance the experience and help you along.
The story behind this attraction takes place after Dorothy defeats the Wicked Witch and returns home. Rumour has it that the Land of Oz is “ending” and as the Great Witch of Oz, Hello Kitty hopes to alter it by removing a chapter from the Great Book.
Unfortunately, things don’t go as planned as the lost chapter has resulted in the malfunction of the Emerald City Machine.
Now that the Land of Oz is plunged into chaos, the Great Witch calls upon her heroic friends and band together to save Oz.
Wood Factory
Your journey in the Land of Oz begins at the Wood Factory, where you are required to assist the Tin Man to chop wood as he has abandoned his post to go on a quest.
This game challenges your strength and determination because the more wood you chop, the closer you are to helping the Great Witch save Oz.
Corn House
As the journey progresses, you will stumble upon the Corn House.
To complete this mission, you must “barbeque” a fictional corn to feed your character. However, one must ensure that the corn will not be turned into ashes, failing which will mean that no trophy will be given to you.
Kuromi’s Tent
Along the journey, you will come across a treasure chest in the attraction and this is where you will complete the 3rd mission.
Located deep in the heart of Oz, then Kuromi’s Tent will challenge your memory as you’re required to memorise an important sequence of instructions. You will then reconstruct the sequence to “unleash the Great Witch’s mighty dark power”.
Emerald City
And finally, guests will find themselves at the Great Book and the Emerald City Machine. Both of these items apparently keep the World of Oz running together.
To reach the Emerald City, guests must use the machine to eliminate the words of negativity and chaos in the Great Book to save Oz and return home.
Guests will receive a souvenir once they successfully completed all the challenges.
In a press statement, Fahruddin Najumudeen, General Manager of Sanrio Hello Kitty Town and The Little Big Club, said:
I am very honoured and thrilled that Hello Kitty in Oz is finally here at Sanrio Hello Kitty Town.
“The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a timeless classic that has brought joy and magic to countless lives and to have it adapted to Hello Kitty is truly something to celebrate. This will be a permanent addition to Sanrio Hello Kitty Town, and I am sure that this will be an experience that will excite children and adults alike as this is the only Hello Kitty in Oz attraction in the world,” he added.
In conjunction with the opening of “Hello Kitty in Oz”, a retail outlet known as “Oz World Alley” has also officially opened at Sanrio Hello Kitty Town, carrying an exclusive line of “Hello Kitty in Oz” collectible merchandise.
Hello Kitty fans will enjoy their time at this theme park as the Hello Kitty Carnival parades will be held daily, as well as a sing-along session for the kids. The beloved Sanrio characters such as Hello Kitty and Badtzmaru will appear at the theme park daily to meet their fans too.
Guests can also look forward to visiting Hello Kitty’s life-sized house and craft special Hello Kitty themed souvenirs so that you don’t have to go home empty-handed.
