One sure sign that Disney Studios is aggressively pushing its limits – A live-action feature film that centres on Prince Charming is reportedly in the works.
It seems like Disney is trying to milk as much money as they can from their iconic animated film franchise as The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the studio has plans to develop a live-action feature focusing on the handsome prince.
According to THR, Disney already picked up a script written by Matt Fogel. However, it is unclear whether the studio will feature the prince from their animated classics such as “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”, “Sleeping Beauty”, or “Cinderella“. David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville Films/TV will produce alongside Tripp Vinson and Mandeville’s Alex Young.
Earlier this year, the studio enjoyed tremendous success with director Kenneth Baranagh’s live-action version of “Cinderella”. In the movie, Cinderella was portrayed by Lily James while the Prince Charming role was portrayed by “Game of Thrones” actor Richard Madden. With its box office success, the idea of developing a movie based on Prince Charming and his life came to light.
Disney has kept mum about the details, but the script is described as a” revisionist take on the fairy tales.
Following the success of last year’s “Maleficent” or this year’s “Cinderella“, a number of Disney’s other animated classics will also be adapted into movies. The animated classics that will be made into live-action versions include:
- The Jungle Book
- Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass
- Beauty and the Beast
- Dumbo
- Winnie the Pooh
- Mulan
- Tinkerbell
- Fantasia – Night On Bald Mountain
The film does not have a release date yet, but what do you think of this? Which sequence would you like to see from the original film? Heck, which Prince Charming would you like Disney to feature? Feel free to discuss that in the comments box below!
