Shortly after they officially announced the “coming soon”, while keeping the exact release date under wraps, Instagram recorded about over 400,000 users on their waiting list. And just this morning, an e-mail notification blast was sent out to anxious Instagram fans or rather, more affectionately known as “IGers”.
Finally, we’re meeting the friendly Android app!
We must say that the experience varies slightly from using Instagram for iOS. Albeit the sharing of your beautiful Instagram photos is nearly the same, Instagram for Android have yet to allow e-mail, Flickr, and Posterous sharing. You will, however, still be able to share via Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare, and Tumblr.
The reason behind this “cut out” is because, and we quote Kevin Systrom, founder of Instagram, “Really, it came down to prioritizing and making sure we got something to users as soon as possible. We cut features that are used by a small minority of folks – like preview, for instance, is used on one percent of all photos posted.”

“Our matra was get something great out, and get it out quickly.”
So quickly that those other sharing options are easily dismissed? Hmm. But we take it that future updates will strengthen the app more and close the gap for the obvious differences between Instagram for Android and Instragram for iOS. After all, users aren’t complaining!
As we speak. the Instagram for Android is already receiving glowing testimonial and thousands of 5-star ratings in Google Play. Well then, it’s time to play, people!
Instagram for Android is compatible with smartphones running Android 2.2 and up. Tablets aren’t supported at this time – yet. We will not be held responsible for any unproductivity today.
