Is Queen Bey making her way to the small screen?
She just could be! It has been reported that Beyoncé has been offered a role in NBC’s upcoming production of “The Wiz” as Glinda the Good Witch. Already signed on to play the Wicked Witch of the West Evillene and the Wizard are Mary J. Blige and Queen Latifah respectively.
With Blige and Latifah already signed on, it’s no doubt that the production already has major star power, but let’s be honest here – Beyoncé’s addition would be a massive add. The news on Beyoncé in talks of joining “The Wiz” was first reported by E! News. Emmy-winning “Orange is the New Black” star Uzo Aduba is reportedly also being considered for the part.
“The Wiz”‘s original Broadway cast in 1975 featured Grammy-winning jazz singer Dee Dee Bridgewater as Glinda, while Lena Horne took the role in the 1987 film, which also starred Michael Jackson and Diana Ross. The musical is an adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” with an entire cast of African-Americans. “The Wiz” features music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls.
As of now, neither NBC nor Beyoncé have confirmed this news so stay tuned as we will continue to update this post as and when we get more information.
“The Wiz” will air on NBC on December 3rd.
