It looks like Demi Lovato won’t be joining Taylor Swift’s squad anytime soon. Nor does she has any intention to be BFFs with the country pop starlet.
Lovato and Swift used to be friends , but ever since the whole Kesha fiasco happened in February 2016, there’s been some bad blood between the 2 singers. In a recent interview with Refinery29, Lovato opened up about her passive-aggressive Twitter jab at Swift saying she “got too passionate. I get carried away on Twitter, and that’s what I said, and that’s that.”
The “Stone Cold” diva previously argued that Swift took the wrong approach in helping Kesha against Dr. Luke. Instead of just donating a US$250,000 cheque in support of Kesha’s legal battle, Lovato felt that Swift should have been more vocal, saying, “take something to Capitol Hill or actually speak out about something and then I’ll be impressed.”
When asked about her beef with Swift, the 23-year-old singer responded, “There are women that I don’t get along with, and that’s fine. My thing is, don’t brand yourself a feminist if you don’t do the work. I have an immense amount of respect for women like Lena Dunham…or Beyoncé, who make amazing political statements through their work.”
So, does Lovato regrets being so vocal about Swift and questioning Tay Tay’s right to call herself a feminist? Yeah… not really. “I’m not going to stop saying what I believe in. I have no problem standing up for myself. Maybe I got it from growing up in Texas, but I never took shit from anybody,” said the pop star.
“Now I know how to do it without pushing people away. You just don’t approach things with a F**k You mentality. Instead it’s: This is the way I’m perceiving things. There’s nothing wrong with my beliefs or feelings. So let’s agree to disagree, or let’s just disagree,” she added.
Lovato didn’t just talk about her feud with Swift during her interview with Refinery29, she also confessed her disappointment on the underwhelming chart performance of her latest album, “Confident”.
“I was really bummed about it because that’s what I was going for. I got to a point where I was like, ‘Oh my god, it does not f**king matter.’ At the end of the day, I’m going to be on tour and I want to be performing songs on stage that I can sing my ass off to and really feel when I’m on stage. So now I have a much better sense of my music,” Lovato explained.
The singer also spilled some exciting news for all you lovatics out there. When she embarks on her upcoming tour with Nick Jonas later this year, Lovato shared that she’ll be leaving some spots in her setlist for new music. “By the time I go on tour, I want to be able to perform new songs. Ideally, I would release a single next month,” said Lovato.
We don’t know about y’all but we’re sure stoked to hear what Lovato has in store for her fans 😉
