Although the recently released “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” has been heavily criticised by critics, many agreed that Gal Gadot stole the show as Wonder Woman.
Perhaps looking to capitalise on the positive feedback on the character, Warner Bros has decided to reveal the first official photo from the upcoming “Wonder Woman” solo adventure.
Directed by Patty Jenkins, the photo shows Princess Diana front and centre, rocking a different set of armour and weapon from what she was seen in “Batman v Superman”. Noticeably missing are her tiara and her lasso of truth, which is safe to assume this era of Wonder Woman takes place before she left the island.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Themyscira is a hidden island where Amazon women of Greek myth have thrived for centuries, living in harmony and free to self-govern away from the gaze of man.
In staying true to the Wonder Woman’s comic book origin, Diana is the only child to have been born and raised on Themyscira while the other warriors have been in existence since ancient Greek. Although Diana is “born” from her mother making a baby out of clay and asking the goddess Aphrodite to breathe life into it, DC’s more recent “New 52” comic book have imagined her to be a child of Zeus.
“Wonder Woman” will serve as an origin story for the young Princess Diana, who is destined to be greatest female warrior of all time. The Amazonian warriors responsible for training Diana are: her mother, Queen Hippolyta (played by Connie Nielsen), and her 2 military aunts – General Antiope (played by Robin Wright) and Lieutenant Menalippe (played by Lisa Loven Kongsli).
In the scenes on Themyscira, the 3 adult women don’t always see eye to eye. On one hand, Hippolyta wants to shelter Diana from the outside world to keep her safe, while Antiope wants to train her to be a tough warrior. “She is the only child they raised together. And their love for her manifests in a different way for each of them,” Jenkins told EW.
On a different note, the whole gang from “Justice League Part 1” recently came out to celebrate the release of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”. The cast probably thought it would be a cool idea to give fans a heart attack by posing together in their first red carpet photo.
Pictured alongside Henry Cavill (Superman), Ben Affleck (Batman) and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) are Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Ezra Miller (The Flash), and Ray Fisher (Cyborg) as well as director Zack Snyder and producer Deborah Snyder.
