We still have a long way to go until we can see “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” on the big screen. Fortunately, there’s no shortage of information and updates about it.
Just a few weeks ago, the first official teaser trailer of the new “Harry Potter” spin-off film debuted online. Though the trailer kept most part of the movie under wraps, it offered us a glimpse into the magical world created by J.K. Rowling.
Rowling, who completed the script for the film last November, said that it is “neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series”. Instead, it is an “extension of the wizarding world”, where Eddie Redmayne (of “Theory of Everything” fame) is being cast to star as main protagonist Newt Scamander.
David Heyman, who produced all 8 of the blockbuster “Harry Potter” features, is serving as the producer of the spin-off movie alongside Rowling, Steve Kloves, and Lionel Wigram.
In an interview with Empire, he said:
Newt is a magizoologist who’s just completed a global journey to find and document magical creatures for a book he plans on writing,” Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts.
“His case is important because it contains some of the creatures he’s been researching. It may be small, but there’s a whole world within,” he added.
Production on the film is currently away at Potter HQ, Watford’s Leavesden Studios.
Regarding the scale of the production, Heyman offered an insight by saying:
On some days, we’ve had several hundred extras, all done up in 1920s costumes. We are going into the magical world, but we’re bringing the magical characters into the Muggle or “Nomaj” world.
Meanwhile, Empire also debuted a new official still from the movie, which you can view below:
