This is too good to be true! “Superman” fans, you’re definitely gonna be excited after reading this.
The “Superman” costume that was worn by American actor and producer Christopher Reeve in the 1978 “Superman: The Movie“, is going up for auction.
Yesterday, 19th November, Nate D.Sanders Auctions auctioned the costume at a starting bid of USD50,000 (RM216,800). According to New York Post, it is expected to fetch up to USD80,000.
The signature sky-blue tunic was made out of a special nylon that was chosen due to it being stretchable and its ability to retain its original shape.
According to the auction company, the costume even absorbed Reeve’s sweat stains which makes the costume even more valuable.
The label on the back of the blue tunic reads, “CHRISTOPHER REEVE / 12312 WITH MUSCLES / SUPERMAN.”
Based on a description in the auction house, the late Reeve refused to wear a muscle suit under the costume. Therefore, he decided to train with “Star Wars” actor and body builder Dave Prowse for several months to prepare for the superhero role.
The late Reeve passed away on 10th October 2004. He has appeared in critical acclaimed films such as “The Remains of the Day” and “Street Smart”. The actor received a Golden Globe nomination for his epic performance in “Rear Window”.
So, are you planning to get your hands on the “Superman” suit? 😉
