Every time Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilms release a new “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” trailer, we’d find ourselves looking at some never-before-seen footage from the highly anticipated space opera.
After releasing an international trailer and its first TV spot, the studio once again enticed fans of “Star Wars” with some new footage from the film with its 2nd TV spot.
Directed by J.J. Abrams, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is co-written by Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan. The previous film in what was a 6-movie series, “Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith”, was released in 2005.
The story is set around 30 years after the events of 1983’s “Return of the Jedi”. Newcomer Daisy Ridley is starring in it as a character named Rey while John Boyega will play Finn. Adam Driver is portraying Kylo Ren, a new villain who wields the much-discussed “tri-saber”. However, no details regarding his role were revealed.
The one-minute TV spot, which was released during ABC’s “Thank God It’s Thursday”, shed light on the yet-to-be-announced plot.
It begins with a footage of Finn, Rey and BB-8 trying to escape from a threat in the sky. Han Solo later can be seen giving Rey a blaster, which bears a striking resemblance to the DL-44 heavy blaster that he used in the original trilogy. In another scene, we also see General Leia in a seemingly important meeting with Han, C-3PO, and Gial Ackbar (Is it a trap!?).
Before the clip comes to an end, we see Finn in a fight with a stormtrooper, who seems to be wielding new weapon that can block a lightsaber.
“Game of Thrones“ star Gwendoline Christie will portray Captain Phasma aka the chrome Stormtrooper while Oscar Isaac, who will be seen next as Apoalypse in “X-Men: Apocalypse“, is portraying Poe Dameron, an elite pilot who has been sent on a mission.
“12 Years a Slave” star Lupita Nyong’o will play a character named Maz Katana, which will be brought to life using CGI based on her performance capture work. Her character is a pirate with no allegiances to either the Resistance (aka the Rebel Alliance) or the First Order (the new Empire). It was rumoured that she was in possession of Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber.
Harrison Ford and Peter Mayhew are returning to reprise their respective roles as Han Solo and his old friend Chewbacca. Despite his absence in the offical theatrical poster, Mark Hamill‘s Luke Skywalker is set to appear in the film.
