Oh dear, One Direction (1D) fans aka Directioners have been melting down for the past 24 hours and there could only be one reason why.
Rumour has it that One Direction will be taking an extended hiatus starting March 2016.
Apparently, a source confirmed to PEOPLE exclusively that the boys (Liam, Harry, Louis, and Niall) have mutually agreed to take a year-long break from the band to pursue their own projects.
One Direction’s break also means that there probably will not be a promotional tour for their 5th album, which is slated for release later this year. However, they will continue to promote the album through February before going their separate ways in March.
Directioners are obviously in shock because this is coming just days after One Direction released their new music video for “Drag Me Down”.
But before you join the social media-wide meltdown, keep in mind that there has been no confirmation as of yet. None of the members have tweeted about the news so far and in fact, when asked about the news by Newsbeat, the group’s PR team simply said, “No comment.”
Just a couple of months ago, former One Direction member Zayn Malik abruptly left the group. At that time, Zayn said, “My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined. But, after 5 years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band. I’d like to apologise to the fans if I’ve let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right.”
He then went on to pursue a solo career almost immediately, starting with a demo track titled, “I Won’t Mind”.
To date, One Direction have had a string of number one hits and have sold millions of albums. This would mark their first hiatus since their debut as a band 5 years ago.
Can’t blame the boys if they need a break, hey.
