Oscars, Leonardo DiCaprio is coming to get you.
It seems like the 5-time Oscar nominated star is back in the hunt for the Oscar glory as he is starring as a legendary explorer in an upcoming epic Western thriller film titled “The Revenant”.
The film, which is directed and co-written by Oscar-winning filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu (of “Birdman” and “Babel” fame), stars DiCaprio as Hugh Glass, a legendary explorer who is brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead by the members of his own hunting team. He survives the attack and sets out to get revenge on the men who betrayed him.
Akiva Goldsman bought Michael Punke’s unpublished manuscript for “The Renevant” with the intent of producing it. The development for the movie began in August 2001 and at that time, director Park Chan-wook was attached to helm and Samuel L. Jackson was in mind to star. However, Chan-wook decided to leave the director’s chair and the project was stalled until 2010. Mark L. Smith wrote a new adaptation of the novel for Steve Golin’s “Anonymous Content”, with John Hillcoat attached to direct and Christian Bale in negotiations to star. However, the production was delayed again as Hillcoat left the project.
In August 2011, González Iñárritu signed on to direct the film. The production was delayed several times due to his commitment to other projects. After confirming that DiCaprio would play the lead role, principal photography finally began in October 2014.
The movie, which was inspired by true events, also stars Tom Hardy (of “Mad Max: Fury Road” fame), Domhnall Gleeson, and Will Poulter.
